If you have a spill on your favorite velvet shirt, cleaning with a paste of salt and water- then rinsed in cold water will remove it quickly.

Velvet can also be cleaned using a toothbrush and brushing out the stain that is embedded in the velvet. Rub gently so you don't pull the materials apart.
