A delicate natural fiber with a beautiful feel and appearance. Must be hand washed to prevent damage. Do not boil or soak. Wash in hand-hot water, squeezing the soap through the material as you do for wool. The temperature of the rinsing water should be the same as for washing. Put the silk between two towels to absorb the moisture. Do not wring. Iron while still slightly damp on the wrong side.
Do not allow silk to become heavily soiled; perspiration stains are almost impossible to remove. Do not rub silk while wet, as this is when it is in its weakest state. Anything that is badly stained should be dry-cleaned before the stain is set.
