Chocolate. Recipe for a Chocolate Alternative

Submitted by June Lawrence

Mix pure cocoa powder (not the sweetened variety) with pure organic maple syrup, approx 3 teaspoons cocoa to 2 dessertspoons maple syrup. The calories are much lower than chocolate as there is no added fat, nor are there any other, possibly addictive or harmful, ingredients.

To make the paste richer, mix in some tahini or unsalted peanut butter, this will put the calories up a bit, but as tahini has a strong flavour, you won't need much. Eat just as it is, or mix with crunchy oat bran, or other dry unsweetened cereal. You can spread it onto rice cakes, or some other low calorie crispbread, or whisk it into hot or cold milk. Enjoy!
