Brushing teeth with bar soap, tastes bad but works well...

Submitted by Shannon

I read online that if you can bear the bad flavor, brushing your teeth with a regular unscented bar soap can kill all germs and remove all plaque and tartar that ordinary tooth paste cannot remove.

It is also supposed to help your teeth to remineralize because they have no residue on them, supposedly tooth paste has tons of glycerin in it ,which sticks to your teeth even if you rinse vigorously after you brush.
Also tooth paste contains fluoride which is supposedly toxic if used in large quantities.

I've tried it for two weeks now (bar soap) ,and I must day my gums are so much healthier looking and my teeth are cleaner and whiter (like 3 shades already).

I went to the dentist two days ago for my yearly cleaning, and I had no plaque! He was impressed at how clean my teeth were.

I have even gotten to where I do not really taste the soap, I think it is because I chose to use DOVE bar soap ...
I just wet my brush and rub it on the soap a few times and brush I try to avoid getting the soap on my tongue, so i do not taste it.

My sister and my sister's husband are also doing this now, and they agree it works really well.

I recommend to anyone who is not closed minded and is willing to research the matter before they pass judgment.

If you go on yahoo type "soap as tooth paste" and you will see all the many articles that come up, so you can decide if this is for you, yourself.

If you like the idea but cannot stand the bad taste, there are flavored tooth soaps available online in flavors like spearmint and cinnamon, They are about 20 bucks but supposedly last an entire year for most people.

I also read that if you take lots of vitamin c and calcium that is also supposed to help your teeth and gums.To stay healthy.

Only use the right kind of soap!!! Comments By: ana on 2009-01-02
you guys, use ALL NATURAL soap.

like olivia care, castile soaps...not DOVE or any commercial soaps. those will RUIN your teeth.

do not try to substitute real natural soap with synthetic harmful soaps.

A Mouthsoaper AND Soapmaker's Comments..... Comments By: Darren David Martin on 2009-01-05
Been a mouth soaper all my life and make my own soaps (not usually for sale though
although I have sold some over the yrs) so I figured I'd make a few comments to the list.

As a mouth soaper, (For fun and disipline too) I've used many kinds over the yrs commercial kinds, while keeping in mind the ingredients AND the ph levels. Some are so alkilie (Irish Spring, Zest, Dial,Lever 2000, Camay, etc.) that I wouldn't use them on my worst friend, then there are the saponified kind like Carress, Dove, Olay, and the like. Well, ok; BUT
I've been making my own for years (Learned from Mom & G. Mom) and using Virgin Olive and Canola Oils in the soaps make for better quality soaps that are not only last longer & are not only better for the skin but better for both mouth soaping AND tooth care. AND using only natural oils and flavors in them makes them taste pretty good too. I currently have about 15 different kinds in different stages of curing (aging) in a controled room.

As for swallowing the soap? So what. Great for the lack of constipation. And if you don't swallow alot of it it won't make you sick to your tummy either and the flavors are'nt too bad either.

As for liquid soaps/shampoos: LOOK @ the ingredient list FIRST before you try it. Not anything I would want in my mouth. Body Washes are no better. Some of the chemicals are TOXIC if taken internally in any amounts.

If you want to use liquid soaps, make them out of bar soaps. It's not hard and works well. Just mix the grated/powered soap with a good quality olive oil (which makes it a great and cheap body wash for all over the skin. Just try not to use a cream base unless you have really dry skin.)

Also, try to keep away from a hard bristled tooth brush. can & will damage the teeth and gums.

The last thing I would like to say is BRUSH THE TONGUE TOO, if you can stand the taste, and even if you can't. 85-90% of the germs that grow in the mouth are growing on the tongue. THat also accounts for what is forming bad breath; it's the gunk on the tongue. Brush that tongue. you'll be pleasantly suprised with the results.

Just a few comments from a regular soap user till I die. BTW, my dentist has always been "Suprised" at how well my mouth hygene has been all these yrs. Should I tell him the REAL TRUTH?

very interesting Comments By: Amy on 2009-03-30
I've been sick for years, and so my teeth have taken a beating. I am consuming more fruits and veggies than ever before, raw ones I mean! And really want to have healthy teeth. Mine have been pretty sensitive. I had a TERRIBLE time finding the "right" bar soap to get for this!!!

Our nearest health store is a ways away and I haven't had much time to get there, so I've been looking at soaps online. I bought one yesterday, and then realized today that it isn't unscented and was just reading that there shouldn't be a fragrance, so, I just ordered a different one from a diff. website that's unscented and has several oils in it so I sure hope it'll work fine and not hurt my teeth :/

I'm tired of toothpaste!!! I'm so excited to try this and I hope it really works!! I go to the dentist on April 20th and I've been concerned about that ha.

Thanks for all the comments!! I can't wait to try this!!!!!!!!!!!!! And to be healthier and feel healthier, but I'm glad God has brought me through this, because I've learned SO SO SO much that I never could have learned otherwise.

Take care all, God bless!

Here's to good dental health! ^_^

no more pain Comments By: RYNO on 2009-06-08
I have been doing this for about 3 months now, and it works great. My parents think I'm nuts, but I think I almost have my wife doing it. Also I had a pain in my back wisdom tooth so bad I had to take about 4 advils a day, I went to the dentist he said I had some tooth decay and that the tooth would have to come out eventually. My friend told me about the soap thing the next day when i was complaining about my tooth, the pain starting slowly going away. The pain was gone by about a week. Explain that to all you naysayers. It makes you think what they have us believing what is good for us to put in our mouths. Think about it.
