In-laws - Tips and hints for dealing with In laws

Work out ways of deflecting potential conflicts. As soon as you become an in-law, make a few discreet inquiries on matters such as to what to call your son or daughter's new in-laws, where holidays will be celebrated, who will help after a grandchild is born and whether attendance at family weddings is expected.

Some relationships are permanent. Your son remains the grandson of his father's parents, no matter how many times you divorce and remarry. The same is true of aunts, uncles and cousins. Don't discourage such family relationships, however you feel about your former in-laws. They can enrich the lives of your children.
