Women
Wear a simple dress or ensemble to work and bring accessories - earrings, bracelets, necklace - a pair of dressy shoes or an evening wrap, such as a brightly coloured shawl or silk blouse, to wear as a jacket. A length of black satin ribbon, 1½-3in/38-75mm wide, can serve as a last-minute evening belt or hair tie. The finishing touch: a silk tassel (you can buy one at a haberdashers or curtain shop) attached to the zip of a leather handbag.
Carry with you a small handbag containing a change of underwear, lipstick and a bottle of expensive perfume.
Men
Wear a clean suit to work, bringing a clean shirt, fresh tie or even a silk handkerchief with you. • If the event is being held at a hotel, take along an electric razor and some aftershave lotion.
