Some people are bothered by their facial hair, particularly if it is dark or thick. There are several ways of removing it.
You can neaten and shape unruly eyebrows by plucking out stray hairs with tweezers. Clean the skin area first and then pluck out the stray hairs one by one, pulling in the direction that they grow. Never pluck out hairs from above the eyebrows, but always from underneath them.
Dark, but sparse, facial hair can be bleached with an appropriate cosmetic bleach, which is available from a chemist. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and always test the bleach on a small patch of skin first, in case you are allergic to it.
Thicker facial hair can be removed with a proprietary facial depilatory cream. Do not use any other types of depilatory cream on your face because they are too harsh. Again, test the cream first on a small patch of skin, in case you are allergic to it. Never use the cream on your eyebrows or near your eyes. Some men, particularly those with darker skins, find that shaving causes ingrown hair and bumps on the surface of their skin. Facial depilatory creams alleviate these problems and make shaving less painful.
Facial strip wax can be used on chin, upper lip and eyebrow hairs. Smooth it on in the direction of the hair growth and wait for the time specified in the instructions before ripping it off. Never wax after a hot bath or shower, or over broken or inflamed skin, warts, moles or scars.
Electrolysis is a more permanent way of removing unwanted hair. It involves passing an electric current through the hair follicle, which destroys the root, and must be done by a professional electrolysist. However, it is the most expensive and painful means of hair removal and is not always successful.
