How to keep your family relationships closer

Keep the family close - even if grand-parents live quite a way away.

Start a new photograph album at the beginning of each year. Add witty captions underneath. And include pictures sent by distant relatives.

Keep a scrapbook of notes, photographs and birthday cards from aunts, uncles and other relatives to remind children of happy relationships.

When youngsters leave home, give them a scrapbook to pass on to their own children.

Draw up a family tree (the reference library might help you with sources).

Write down stories (or record them on tape) to remind children about ancestors who have led unusual or interesting lives.
