Do you need gloves in a hurry? Slip a sock over your hand, move your thumb away from your index finger and cut through the material in that space. Remove the sock and stitch along the cut edge.

Remove fresh spots from leather and suede gloves by rubbing them with stale bread.

Clean white kid gloves with powdered starch or tailor's chalk. Apply with a piece of silk, then shake the loose powder off.

For a stain on black kid, dab on indelible black marker, then rub in a few drops of olive oil.

To dry out wet plastic or rubber gloves, hang them by their fingers or put them over propped-up wooden spoon handles.

Instead of wearing plastic or rubber gloves while painting, apply liquid latex (available at hardware stores) over your hands, which dries to a flexible film; wash it off with the paint. To protect your hands during paint touch-ups, just coat your hands with hand cream.
