Leave the converting and repairing of old or antique lamp fittings to the experts. There can be problems with flexes, switches and light holders that no longer meet current British Standard safety standards.

Clip-on spot lamps and builder's inspection lamps fixed to a shelf can provide useful extra reading and working light. As bulbs and shades can become very hot to touch, these fittings are not recommended for bedhead reading lights or children's rooms.

If a light bulb shatters, turn off the switch or unplug the cord, press a wad of putty or plasticine over the sharp edges, and twist the stub with it.

I cut a Potato in-half and push the cut end down on the boken light bulb and then twist it out of the socket.. Be sure to unplug your lamp first.
