Medication schedule - Tips for taking medicine

Make up a week-by-week chart: write the days of the week down the short side of a large piece of paper, the hours of the day across the long side; fill in the dosages in the appropriate hours. Hang the chart near or inside your medicine cabinet and check off each marked box as soon as you take the medicine.

Label the compartments of an ice cube tray for all your waking hours. Each morning place pills, or small slips of paper representing liquid medicines, in their appropriate compartments. Discard the slips after taking the medicine.

If you're away from home, wear a digital watch set to beep every hour. Carry your medicine(s) and schedule in your pocket or bag. When the beeper sounds, check your schedule and take your medicine.

To prevent confusion, write the name of each medicine in bold, bright letters on the biggest self-sticking label that will fit on the container. If possible, use a different coloured label for each of your morning, afternoon and evening medicines.
