To prevent metal costume jewellery from tarnishing, store a piece of white chalk with it.
To avoid tangled necklaces, hang them from adhesive-backed plastic hooks on your dressing-table mirror or from a tie rack on the inside of the cupboard door.
Using soft fabric, make a small drawstring bag to keep pearls from being damaged by other jewellery.
To clean non plastic costume jewellery, immerse it in surgical spirit for 5 minutes. Then rinse in warm water and dry with a lint-free cloth. Soak rhinestone pieces in washing-up liquid for 15 minutes; rinse in warm water and dry with a flannel. Do the same for metal jewellery, but dilute the detergent with warm water.
