Needle and thread - Tips about needles and thread

Bend a piece of fine wire, such as fuse wire, to make a needle threader. Push the cotton through and insert it into the eye of the needle.

To make threading a needle easier, cut the thread diagonally.

For emergency sewing if you run out of thread, use dental floss or, on heavy clothing, fine twine.

If you can't quite match the colour of a fabric, buy thread a shade lighter than the cloth. Or unravel the edge of the fabric you're about to mend.

There's no need for a needle and thread with iron-on bonding web; use '/4in/6mm tape for tacking, ¾in/ 19mm tape for hemming. If you change your mind about using the tape, iron it to reheat it and peel it off.
