Knit a country classic - a rag rug - from pieces of old fabric cut lengthwise into thin strips. Sew the ends together and press the edges in for a neater look. Use a simple knit stitch and needles that are about ½n/13mm in diameter.
To make a patchwork quilt in double-quick time, arrange your patches on panels of fusible web (sold by the yard/ metre in fabric shops) and iron them down. Peel the paper backing from the web panels and iron them onto a bedsheet. Use the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to conceal the patches' raw edges. Add filler and backing and quilt as usual.
