To prevent yellowing, dissolve a milk of magnesia tablet in 2 pints/1 litre of soda water. Let the mixture stand overnight. Stir well and soak your cutting in the solution for an hour; blot with a paper towel and place on a clean cake rack or grill to dry.

If cuttings have been stored in a damp place, remove mildew by drying them in the sun. (On a rainy day, try the low setting on a hair dryer or an electric fan.) Then sprinkle cornflour onto them to absorb what moisture remains.
