To reduce the amount of oil your skin produces, avoid spicy foods, reduce oils and fats in your diet, cut out fatty sweets such as chocolate and toffee, and drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
For a facial refresher, fill a spray bottle with tepid water and 1 teaspoon of salt, then spray the solution on your face. Blot dry with a towel. For a quick steam, heat a wet towel in the microwave and form a tent over your face.
Here's a quick facial mask. Mix 3 tablespoons each of mineral water and fullers earth or powdered clay (from chemists or health food shops), and apply to your face. After 20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Or try a paste of warm water and oatmeal for 10 minutes.
If you're out of astringent, mix cider vinegar or lemon juice with a little cool water, cover your hair and close your eves, and splash some on your face. Wipe with cotton wool. During the summer, freeze the solution in an ice cube tray; run a cube over your face when you feel hot.
Carry cotton-wool pads soaked in an astringent solution in a waterproof container, and wipe your face with them during the day.
To remove makeup, mix a teaspoon of powdered skim milk with warm water; apply with cotton wool, wipe with tissues and blot dry.
Try not to dry out your skin too much. The condition you are trying to relieve is the very thing that will keep your skin looking younger.
