Olive Oil and Coconut oil for your hair

Submitted by Waka Waka

Olive Oil does excellently for your hair. I have thin hair that is dry from the winter, and was previously damaged but now back on track. I used to wash my hair every day and not use conditioner. On top of that, I used to blow dry my hair on its highest settings, and close to the scalp. Months of this, and your hair is dry, brittle, falling out and thinning. In addition, my scalp would try to make up for the lack of oils by producing more oils; this would make me wash my hair MORE.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil allowed my hair to get back to its previous healthy state. Here's what I do: I soak my head in Extra Virgin Olive Oil an hour or so before I go to bed. This allows the oil to sit in longer. Then I go to sleep. I don't put any shower cap on because I personally don't like the feel of it. And I use an older pillow case or maybe a towel over my pillow, just in case the oil ruins the fabric. (Usually it does not damage the pillow case!)

I wake up in the morning, head to the shower and shampoo my hair. Usually I have to have a second helping of the shampoo, just to make sure all of the oil is gone. Sometimes I add conditioner to my ends. Sometimes I dab a very small amount (I'm talking the size of a dime, but very SHALLOW) of the Extra virgin olive oil, and run it through my ends.

Also, to avoid damaging my hair even more, I let my hair air dry until it's a bit damp. Then I go ahead and use my blow drier and style my hair, but on low heat settings.

ANOTHER TRICK!

Coconut oil. It's an old Caribbean "secret." I would do this over a weekend that you are not planning to go anywhere, as coconut oil is heavier than EVOO and MAY leave your hair a bit greasy after shampooing. But it does WONDERS. Seriously. It'll repair your hair like CRAZY. The problem with Coconut Oil is that it is pretty expensive. Coconut oil is really a paste. The oil does rise to the top, as it is much more dense than the creamy coconut paste. The smell is not dreadful, but unusual.
