The Post office no longer has a monopoly on postal services. For ordinary letters, however, it still provides the simplest and best service.
If you value speed over cost, there are private courier organisations that will guarantee faster delivery than the Post Office. See your Yellow Pages.
If you, the sender, and the recipient have a fax machine, it is cheaper to send a fax of up to three pages than to send a letter. You may be able to access a fax through local 'copy shops', but this will cost considerably more.
Parcels deliveries are a very competitive area. Shop around the carriers for the cheapest price and best service offered. Security organisations are best for confidential and high-value material.
If you have a complaint about the Post office service, contact the Post Office Users' National Council. The current local address can be obtained from any post office.
