To remove a self-adhesive hook from a tile, drip vinegar behind it. Scrape off any residue with your fingernail or a dull knife. On a painted or plastic surface soften stubborn residue with a warm rag or hair dryer.

On unpainted surfaces use surgical spirit, methylated spirits, cleaning solvent, lacquer thinner, hair spray or nail-polish remover; test first on an inconspicuous area.
