Touch up scuffed heels quickly with a waterproof felt-tip pen. On white heels, white toothpaste acts as a temporary finish. For more permanent camouflage, shoe repair shops and haberdashery counters sell special heel paints in a wide range of colours.
Protect and shine up wooden heels with polyurethane varnish. If they're badly scratched, sand and stain with furniture finish. You can also fill badly pitted heels with plastic wood.
Ask your local shoe repair shop about the full range of repairs they can do. Heel shapes and heights can be changed, linings renewed and holes and splits patched unobtrusively. For details of specialist shoe repairers in your area, contact The Society of Master Shoe Repairers Ltd.
