You don't need an expensive ski rack to carry your skis to dry or snow slopes. If your car has a standard roof rack, you can fasten skis to it with three bungee cords, one at each end and one in the middle. Hook the cords to one side of the rack, then circle them completely around the skis and hook to the other side. To keep the skis from scratching the car roof, tape kitchen sponges on the underside at each end.
Remove your boot liners and dry them before storing boots at the end of the season. Wash the outsides of the boots, replace the dry liners, and fasten the boots before you put them away ( fastening helps them keep their shape). Mice and spiders like to nest in ski boots, so stuff yours with plenty of tightly packed, wadded-up newspaper.
Conditioning exercises
A few weeks before the ski season starts, use these exercises to get in shape:
Chair sit. Press your back against a wall and lower yourself down as though sit-ting on a chair. Hold the position for 15 seconds. Repeat six times a day.
Knee stretch. With your feet together, bend your knees to a half crouch. Hold this position for 30 seconds. Repeat several times a day.
