I just read the letter about urine smells in a mattress. I had to remove urine from a mattress once and found that this worked pretty well: I made a weak solution of hot water and bleach and soaked the spot with it, then vacuumed out the water, etc. with a wet/dry vac. I had to repeat several times over a few days, but it worked!
