When odors proliferate from your garbage disposal, dump a cup or two of ice down the drain and turn on the disposal. If it still smells, add more ice and repeat. Fresh citris peels add a nice scent.

I found a packet for cleaning disposals that foams and comes up both sides of my sink. It seemed like it was acually scrubbing the gunk away. The the product is called disposer care.
