Descaling Products

Most de-scaling products , used to remove build up of limescale in kettles, coffee machines, baths, taps, faucets etc contain ammonia and caustic ingredients.

Alternative

Soften the deposits inside kettles by adding one tablespoon of borax (a water softener) to a kettle full of cold water. Bring the kettle to the boil. Leave the water to cool then rub off the deposits with a rough cloth.

Or cover the element with vinegar, bring it to the boil, allow it to cool then empty and rinse the kettle several times. Prevent further scale from forming by placing a marble in the bottom of the kettle.
