Scouring powder

Scouring powders do what they say they will do. They will also scour away the surface that the marks are on that you are trying to clean. They contain whiting or pumice and/or silver sand with bleaches, detergents and perfumes. There are very few items in the home that need to be so roughly treated. Scouring can damage the surface of baths, basins, sinks, enamel finishes and cooking pans irreparably.

Alternative

Wipe surfaces such as baths, showers and basins frequently with a damp cloth so that they don't need scouring. Soak pans in water before you wash them. Use vinegar to break down the grease. Regular cleaning will prevent having to use such damaging chemical products.
