Paint

Modern paints are lead-free, but leftover paint may not be. Throw old paints away rather than risk lead-poisoning. Modern paints and wood stains may contain cadmium or titanium oxide, which are both poisonous. Avoid metallic paints, or those with a high metal content, as they are poisonous.

Don't use fungicidal paints in kitchens because the fungicide may get into the food.

Alternative

Use water-based paints where possible. These are less toxic than oil-based paints.
