Use two or three cup hooks screwed into the underside of your fireplace mantle to securely hang your Christmas greenery/garland. Tie wire or ribbon to the garland at the places you want to secure and then simply slip the wire/ribbon over the cup hook.
The small holes will not be noticeable after the holidays. Pack the cup hooks with your mantle garland and decorations so you will have them ready for the next year! I have done this for many years, now, and my garland goes up very quickly and I know it will stay put!
