Sloe gin. Traditional recipe for sloe gin

Submitted by hazel_eyes

This is delicious and warming in front of an open fire in wintry weather.

1lb sloes (fruits of the blackthorn: prunus spinosa)
1lb brown sugar
1 litre of gin

wash and prick sloes (traditionally with a silver pin) put in a large sterilized airtight jar (le parfait) add sugar and gin.
leave for a minimum three months,
invert jar daily until the sugar has dissolved.
can drink, but better left for three more, or until next xmas.

I also love Damson Gin. The trouble is, it's very " more-ish".

Thanks for this recipe, it's slightly different than mine, so I will give your recipe a try.

Try adding 8 blanched almonds to this recipe for extra flavour.

You can substitue the cracked stones (kernels) of apricots, cherries or peaches.
