Whiter teeth. Tips to make teeth white again

Brush your teeth with Baking soda to remove stains and whiten teeth. Do this about once a week. It really works. Just use the baking soda as you would toothpaste.

I wouldn't do this. Comments By: Steve on 2004-08-02
I considered this once. I made a bit of paste with baking soda and water. Before I brushed my teeth with it, however, I tried something. I took a bit of it between my fingers and rubbed them together. It was very gritty. I don't care who recommends this. I don't even care if you are a dentist. Baking soda is horribly abrasive and will damgage your teeth.

i have tried this before and it does work. Baking soda is also an ingredient in toothpaste so it should qork anyway. By the way how can trying this idea yellow ur teeth? Duhhhhhhhhh! It can't. It can either improve it or keep it the same and it improves it. BAM!

it doesnt work !!!! Comments By: waqas nawaz on 2007-11-29
Baking soda is suited to different types of teeth. i have tried it and have found that my teeth have indeed stained more than i started with.

confuzzled Comments By: anon on 2007-12-31
do you mix it with water and brush? Does this work if you have braces? Will it really stain my teeth? IMPORTANT QUESTIONS!

TipKing says. Just moisten your toothbrish and dip it into your baking soda. The soda will stick to the brush for cleaning. No it will not stain your teeth

I've just brought a tub of bicarbonated soda and a bit ditz on how to start using it?
So I just put a pinch of two of the baking soda in with a tbsp amount of water and use it like I would with normal toothpaste?!
How many times a week should I aim to do it? Is everyday too much/or too dodgy? Should I alternate it with using salt to achieve the best results?
X

unsure Comments By: Nia on 2008-11-17
I got this idea from a friend, and began using the stuff this morning - and already, I can see my teeth are a bit whiter and fresher.
Aside from this, it did make my gums bleed a lot. But that's just a small price to pay, seeing as my gums bleed every day thanks to my retainer.
I'd reccomend it!

Advice Comments By: Tammy on 2009-01-20
I would suggest all new-doers to brush teeth everyday twice a day with your Ordinary toothpaste firstly. This will, if at all, improve the healthiness and Whiteness of teeth and gums. Every tooth is as important. Gums are also as important as teeth. Without it, we would be in ugly pain!

1.Apply a small amount of baking soda to the tip of your toothbrush. a small bristle brush is preferable for this.

2. Starting from the back tooth on your top set, brush circularly ON THE TEETH, NOT ON GUMS, all the way round. do the same with your bottom teeth. (inside and out!)

3. rinse mouth with cold water to ensure the whiteness is stable.

4. you could continue with this everyday, but i would advise you to use a generously large amont (which means not very big) once a day. However, for use twice a day, use g. small amounts in the morning, and night.

i hope this helps!

Its not that bad! Comments By: Vanessa on 2009-01-10
Baking soda is in toothpaste so its not harmful in any way..and hopefully you brush you teeth everyday without them turning yellow or something!

Baking Soda is magic Comments By: Cheryl on 2009-01-13
How can I take any of the views above seriously, when none of you can write properly. Are you all under 10 years old? Are you even trying to write in English? Sheeesh! What type of forum is this?

Baking Soda does not damage your teeth or gums and is a common ingredient in a lot of toothpastes. It is also good for cleaning most things.

Oh, and it makes cakes nice and fluffy.

ummm baking soda obviously works! Comments By: anon on 2009-03-15
umm whoever says baking soda doesnt work becuase its gritty is retarded. tooth cleansers are supposed to be gritty its what makes it work, its in toothpaste for a reason! baking soda is probably the cheapest and best working way to clean your teeth, i dnt care what anyone else says it works.

My Grandmother always cleaned her teeth with a tooth powder based on baking soda and she used dilute hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash. She was born in 1911, lived through 2 world wars and when she died at age 89 she still had all her own teeth!!!!!!

Help? Comments By: Madison on 2009-06-01
I don't know whether I want to try Baking Soda, just because it sounds so unnatural and too chemicalish to put on my teeth. So i need to know that it works definatley and has no damaging side effects (or long term effects) thanks!!

Baking Soda is not dangerous Comments By: Sami on 2009-06-15
Baking Soda is not bad for your teeth.

I read it on the back of a Iron Deficiency Liquid Syrup Bottle. It says that this medicine stains teeth (The Iron Liquid), but this can be removed when baking soda is applied to teeth.

In just 2 days Comments By: Richie Red on 2009-06-16
started using it, applying toothpaste to my tooth brush as regularly, then just placing my toothbrush facing down on top of a bed of bicarbonate and whatever stuck there, then i brushed my teeth, and just after 2 days of using it i started to notice the differnece.
My teeth are not yet white but they are getting there.

This is a great way to whiten your teeth Comments By: Kate on 2009-06-29
Regardless of what people say this is a great way to whiten your teeth as bicarb of soda is a bleaching product.
Everyone should know this because if you leave it on your skin it will sting, this is because it is bleaching.

Also it is a good way to clean your teeth as it is quite gritty, therefore will work like an exfoliant does on the skin.

truth Comments By: Courtney Appleyard on 2009-08-14
I know quite alo of people who have used the baking soda remedy and have had brilliant results after a couple of weeks and I'm one of them successful people so trust me! They remove stains not replace them!

Brilliant Comments By: Ashlea on 2009-08-21
After reading peoples views on bicarb, i decided to give it ago myself.
Well what can I say, I brushed my teeth thoroughly first, dipped my toothbrush into bicarb of soda and brushed my teeth ensuring I did not brush it into my gums. I saw the results immediatley! When finished my teeth were sparkling! That was the best and cheapest thing i have ever used on my teeth!

BOO! Comments By: Holly on 2009-10-18
everything is harmful if used too just stay away from your gums. often id start off just using it once a day gently on every tooth rinse with water use a whitening mouth wash which is for sensitive teeth (i add abit of salt into the paste) and also invest in another toothpaste which you use weekly just like you would go to the dentist for a real clean every few months and dont forget to floss.

Bicarb of soda versus baking soda Comments By: Anon on 2009-10-26
Baking soda is bicarbonate of soda with extra ingredients. I believe it's the bicarbonate that needs to be used for teeth, perhaps that's why the people using baking soda disagree.

Blood Comments By: Natalie on 2009-11-01
I just tried this for the first time, i could see an immediate improvement but the downside is when brushing the only thing i could taste in my mouth was blood even though my mouth wasnt bleeding

It's best that any adivice taken from the board is dictated by a health professional as apposed to regular users stating from experiences. Teeth are different in that some are more sensative then others.

dilemma Comments By: blackpill on 2010-01-11
i have not used it, i want 2 but at the same time im scared of the things they say about bleeding and staining.

DEPENDS ON THE PERSON Comments By: sash on 2010-01-11
There are many comment saying it doesnt woek but also many saying it works. I have used it about 3 times a day for the last 2 days, my teeth are white but my gums are bleeding and sore which is why i decided to research it, it is gritty which weakens the enamel on teeth which is bad because this protects your teeth, it will firstly remove stains and over use it will erode your enamel because it is an abrasive. Toothpaste does use bicarb of soda but in very small quantities. having had both good and bad effects, and after research i am going to use it once every other day. i dip my toothbrush and toothpast into a pot of baking powder, bough from supermarket in cake section. Hope this helps. MODERATION

Bicarbonate of Soda Comments By: Dr Who on 2010-01-15
Or baking soda is a fantastic cleaner which is especially good for cleaning stainless steel. I use a teaspoon ful in my dishwasher and the dishes are wonderfully clean and sparkling. I wouldn't use it on sensitive teeth and gums but I use it raw to whiten my teeth one a week and my teeth are snow white despite years of smoking and strong black coffee.

..Need answer Comments By: aaron on 2010-01-18
Ok... So i suppose it works, but can i just stop using it after like a week or so and my teeth will stay like they did when i used it? Please answer :)

Bicarb works is safe used by dentists forever! Comments By: Tracy Britton on 2010-02-23
Ok, all calm down, Bicarb wont stain your teeth, it cant basically it is a bleaching agent! If your dental health is poor you will need to work on that first, I suggest that you get some Cordosyl mouth wash, use it daily for a week this will help Gums and oral health, clean teeth 3x daily as normal for a week Then make a paste 70/30 Bicarb/Salt use small circular brushing motions onto teeth only, not the gums, rinse with warm water. use once a day for 2 weeks then once a week, you can also use cider apple vinegar in water as a good mouth wash. My Gran used Bicarb for years and we also used it for years in our Dental practice. Remember though your oral health is more important that white teeth after all if you dont look after your gums your teeth white or not will still fall out! happy bleaching

Hi,I have got 2 veneers for my front teeth due to acid reflux. I would like to get the rest of my teeth and hopefully if it works pay for new whiter veneers to be fitted. Does anyone know if the baking soda will cause any harm to my veneers? Please reply

TipKing says: Baking soda is an abrasive so you need to be careful. Try using a toothpaste that has baking soda in it. Read the directions and go from there

been doing it for years Comments By: Kath. H on 2010-03-10
i have used bicarbonate of soda for years even before companies started addind it to toothpaste. my teeth are whie and i always get comments and my dentist says it will not harm the enamel on my teeth and it hasn't

Don't use baking soda on your teeth Comments By: Alexa on 2010-04-05
I used baking soda on my teeth and my gums became raw, crinkly and painful. I stopped using it and several days later my gums returned to normal. During this transition I used regular tooth paste but didn't brush in the area affected by the baking soda. You couldn't pay me enough to use this product ever again.

My Dentist Recommended It Comments By: Shelby on 2010-06-07
Yep, my dentist told me to wet my toothbrush with water, dip it in the baking soda and brush as if it was toothpaste. He also says to use hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash after this because it "activates" the baking soda. He said to only use it TWICE a week, using toothpaste in between.

Even though I'm a heavy smoker (3 to 4 packs a day) and a heavy dark coffee lover, my teeth are white than my nonsmoker / water-only friends'.

teeth professional Comments By: joethepope on 2010-06-17
Ok let me tell you, my gran was born on 1912 and used bicarb as well as toothpaste (both twice daily) when it was invented in 1922. She stuck by this routine regimentally to the point where she was even late for work. She was sacked and told to buck up her ideas, which i think youll find is solid advice, your welcome:)....next!

It's GREAT, I tell you! Comments By: Mb on 2010-08-04
My mum's a pharmacist and she brought me this tooth-powder made of baking soda and calcium carbonate. It's just great. The results are not imediate (aka 2 days and no result) but it made my teeth whiter is 1 week!
