Make it easier to drive a screw

Use Paraffin wax (candle wax) on the thread of wood screws to make it easier to drive the screw.

I have heard that soap will work the same.

Soap is a horrible choice. It is usually made with lye and contains either sodium or potassium. It is alkaline. It will corrode most metal screws over time except ss or bronze. Some types will also destroy the wood itself causing the screws to come loose.
