DIY Tips Nailing long boards

When nailing a long finished board in your home, when making a table, when putting up trim, be sure to stagger your nails so that you are not nailing along the same line of grain in the wood. When you stagger your nails you won't run the risk of splitting the board.

If you are driving nails into wood strips especially close to the ends, place the nail head down onto a hard surface and flatten the point with your hammer. This will make the nail punch through the wood instead of splitting it apart.
