Cream of tarter for Bleach stains

If you have a favorite top or skirt or even socks that have been yellowed by using bleach you can whiten them by boiling the item in a quart of water with half a cup of cream of tarter.

I tried your method and it worked a little, but I did not know how long to boil it. It was a knit shirt.
