Curry Stain. Tips for removing Curry stains on Washable fabrics

Curry can often dye fabric, so wash the stain as soon as possible in a biological powder that contains bleach. If the marks persist, white and color-fast items can be soaked in a hydrogen peroxide and water solution. If your hydrogen peroxide is a 20% volume then you need to dilute it to 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 9 parts water. Then rinse well and wash as normal.

A way of pre treating the stain on washable fabric is to keep dipping the article in lukewarm water. This will remove most of the stain. Then make a solution of equal parts water and glycerin and work this into the stain. Rinse with cold water and then soak in a biological detergent prior to washing as normal.

Curry stain on blue jeans Comments By: Pavani
WHat is a biological detergent? I stained my jeans, so I can't risk bleaching it. Does hydrogen peroxide bleach blue jeans? How about glycerin: does it bleach a pair of jeans?

Please advise. Thanks
-Pavani

TipKing says: There are 2 main types of detergent, biological and non-biological. Biological detergents use an enzime that breaks up stains on clothes. Hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleach and yes it will slightly bleach blue jeans. Glycerin will not bleach blue jeans.

Thanks for the glycerine hint; I shall get some from the chemist tomorrow and try it. Will let you know how it works. I did not know this stain was there until I went to put on my beige pants.

Thank you for the glycerine hint. I tried it and it partially helped. This is because the stain was old and had set. Even so, the stain is much better than it was.

Curry stain removed! Comments By: Christine
I pre-treated the stain with glycerin, washed it off with water, then added the peroxide. The stain disappeared before my eyes. It was like magic! I didn't have to add any detergent.

Magic Comments By: Kathy Canacott
I had a 12inch yellow curry stain on my irish linen tablecloth, a cloth that had been handed down in the family. I was desperate to remove it and my daughter suggested MILTON Sterilising Fluid. I poured it on the wet cloth that been in soak and watched it dispear immediately I put it straight back into cold water straight away and then put it in a 40 degree wash, it was as new. What a relief! Hope this helps someone in the same situation.

milton is magic!!!!!!! Comments By: David
Thanks Kathy
Awesome tip. I read your advice and had some milton tablets in the cupboard. literally touched the tablet onto damp white cotton top and the curry stains literally disappeared, no need to rub and damage the fabric. just went on to remove stains from white trainers also. Fantastic stuff.
