Rubber Cement. Tips to remove Rubber Cement stains on carpets

Working on crafts in your home, you might find a spilled amount of rubber cement on your carpet.  Use these tips if you have a bit of rubber cement in your carpet that you need to clean out.

Scrape out as much of the rubber cement as you can with a dull flat object like your drivers license or a butter knife.  Pick out the bigger gooey pieces with your fingernails. If the area is still wet, dab the area with a paper towel to bring out other liquid in the rubber cement.

Using a paper towel wet the paper towel with a splash of rubbing alcohol and dab the area that is still holding the rubber cement in the fibers.  Dont put the rubber cement directly on the carpet, but on the paper towel and then dab the paper towel on the carpet fibers.

The next step to cleaning rubber cement out of your carpeting is to use a spray mixture of water and dish liquid (clear with out bleach) and spray over the rubber cement stain. Dab your paper towel to the carpeting pulling out the moisture but without rubbing the carpeting too much.  Repeat this until the stain is gone or you are unable to pull up any further amount of rubber cement.

Rinse your carpeting out with a clear warm water, spraying the stain and dabbing with a paper towel to rinse the fibers of the rubbing alcohol and the suds while loosening even more of the rubber cement.

Let the carpeting dry for a bit and then use a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide if you still have a rubber cement stain.  Spray the area, let it dry and then re-spray with more peroxide.  Dab this up with your paper towel.  Repeat as needed to bring out any remnants of the rubber cement.
