Silly Putty. Tips to remove Silly Putty stains on clothes and fabric

Silly putty is one of those stains that most all children have had at one time or another. Use this tip when you are faced with a silly putty stain in your laundry.

The first thing that you will need to do is scrape as much of the silly putty off the fabric using a butter knife or you fingernails. Do not pull on the fabric too much or you will stretch it out of shape.

Spray the fabric with WD 40 if the fabric is not dry clean only and if it is a darker colored fabric. The WD 40 can leave an oily stain on some lighter colored fabrics.

Let this sit just for a minute and then blot using clean white paper towels.

If the stain remains in the fabric, use a paper towel wet with just a dab of rubbing alcohol and dab this over the silly putty stain. Do this a few times, changing the portion of the towel that you are cleaning with so you can see if more of the silly putty is coming out on your towel or not.

Rinse the fabric with warm water, and let it hang to air dry. If the stain is gone you can launder as usual, if the stain remains, start back over and redo the process again to remove additional silly putty.

You are not providing a solution/recommendation if the stain is on a white sweater? Just "dark colored clothing".

If it is on a white sweater, follow steps below Comments By: Bonn Scott on 2008-04-01
1 take white sweater into the kitchen
2 open the cabinet that contains the trash can
3 toss it into the trash can
4 go to store and buy new one
