Tar. Tips to remove Tar stains on clothes and fabric

Tar stains should be worked on first by scraping or picking off as much of the excess tar on the fabric as possible. Freezing the fabric and then working on the tar stain is sometimes much easier. Use your fingers or a butter knife to pull out excess tar from the fabric.

Apply liquid laundry or dish detergent to the stained area and work in well with your fingers or a soft scrub brush. Apply the liquid from both sides of the stain if possible. Let this sit for about fifteen minutes.

Check the fabric tags if you can use bleach on this type of fabric.

Soak the item in a gallon of water with a cup of liquid or powdered bleach. Soak only for about ten minutes and then rinse. Re inspecting for the tar stain.

If the tar stain still remains, put the stain side down and apply a few drops of dry cleaning fluid to the back of the stain. Let this dry and launder. Do not dry until you have re inspected the stain once again.

Repeat as needed until the entire tar stain is gone!

..put some Baby Oil or mineral oil on most types of tar(once or twice) to dissolve it in about 5-10 min's, then spray some 409 or SimpleGreen to flush it from the fabric(repeat oil treatment if needed)...then put some liquid Detergent on for 15-30 min's before running thru wash cycle.
