Peel Garlic Easy ways to peel garlic

Peeling garlic can be a bit tricky if you haven't ever done it before. So, here are a couple of helpful ideas to make garlic peeling a breeze and your cooking so much easier.

To peel garlic fast, put the garlic cloves in the microwave for 15 seconds and the skins will slip off with ease with a paring knife or your fingers.

Another way to peal garlic fast and easy is to hit the clove hard with the flat side of large knife or you can hit it on the counter hard. This will split the garlic head and make removing the skin easy with your fingers.

Garlic can be a pain to clean. I begin by selecting large pods with dry skins. To clean, I simply chop off the head, pinch the "tail" of the garlic and pull it off sideways. It's really that simple. For smaller, tighter pods, I slice off the head, then cut lightly along the outer curved back, then peel off as described above, pinching the tail. Hope this helps.

Better to crush than to nuke.... Comments By: Anon. on 2010-02-20
I tried putting my home grown garlic cloves in the microwave for 15 seconds. At approximately 6 seconds, one burst into flame! Stopped the machine, and yes, the heated cloves were reasonably easy to peel, but nonetheless, I chose to crush the remaining cloves I needed for the recipe. Much safer, and just as easy!
